Adopt a Shih Tzu / Mixed

Shih Tzu / Mixed Dog

Dottie the Dog needs a home

FOSTER UPDATE: When we first met her, it was clear that she was dealing with some health issues—most visible being cataracts in both of her eyes—but, let me tell you, these issues do not hold her back at all. Dottie comes in to the office with me during the week, and braves the subway like a New Yorker (hard to believe she's from Georgia!), charming everyone we sit next to. She runs and explores around my office all day, and happily lets people hold her. Dottie is incredibly social and gets along great with our office puppy, too.

When we go out for walks, Dottie confidently walks right by my side, or sometimes takes the lead out in front (despite the cataracts!). She seems to be decently potty trained, although there have been accidents at home and at the office.

At home, Dottie is much more attached, and will follow me when I walk down the hallway, watch me closely as I cook dinner, and snuggle right up next to me when my husband and I relax on the couch at night. She has some definite separation anxiety, and doesn't like to be alone—even if I take a quick shower she will cry (and may mark the house). If I leave the house for an errand, I keep the tv on and set her bed up in front of it—the tv seems to help her relax.

We're also learning that Dottie really does not like to feel that she's contained in any way. She doesn't like crates, and she doesn't like being gated off in a room away from her humans. She hasn't wanted us to close our bedroom door at night, either. This little girl seems to get nervous when she thinks she's being kept somewhere. At night, Dottie will have to do a little pacing around to get comfortable, and has slept most successfully when she's in bed with us. Because of her cataracts, she has to get a good the lay of the land by sniffing out her space and pacing around before she feels comfortable and safe settling in.

Dottie is a sweet, gentle girl who will soak in all the love she can possibly get, and her goofy, adorable personality wins over everyone she meets.

Dottie is a super sweet older gal, 11-years young, who was found wandering with a blind Pitbull in rural West Virginia...obviously dumped together...so sad. She is very spunky little Shih Tzu mix with vision impairment and very few teeth, causing her tongue to always hang out...this just adds to this little one's charm and goofey self!

Apply now for precious Dottie and give her a chance to live out her golden years in a loving forever home. She'll repay with plenty of lap warming and snuggles.
